An event on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities” was held at our university for the staff and students with disabilities. Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Recai Kilic and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sıdkı İlkay, Deputy Secretary General of Metropolitan Municipality Serdar Öztürk, Coordinator of the Barrier-free Campus Unit Prof. Dr. Fevziye Çetinkaya, Deputy Coordinator of the Barrier-free Campus Unit Lect. Nimet Susam, AK Party Melikgazi District Chairman Gökhan Ülke, AK Party Kocasinan District Chairman Hüseyin Okandan, staff and students with disabilities attended the event. Making the opening speech of the event, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sıdkı Ilkay gave information about the university's works for the people with disabilities. He said: “Our university has set the goal of “making Erciyes University barrier-free campus” in its updated 2020-2021 Strategic Plan. In order to measure the level of reaching this target, 4 performance indicators were defined: the rate of spatial accessibility (66%), the rate of accessibility in education (68%), the rate of accessibility in socio-cultural activities (65%) and the total number of flags owned. For the year 2020, works on examination, detection and costing were carried out in all units by the Barrier-free Campus Unit and the team organized by the Department of Construction and Technical Works in terms of spatial accessibility, accessibility in education and socio-cultural activities. A budget of 13 million TL was requested to make up the deficiencies identified in the 2020 budget. The budget allocated by the state for 2020 was 100,000 TL, deducted from the major repair budget. We are trying to meet your needs with our own means and the efforts of Barrier-Free Campus Unit of our university. Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality provided our university with a shuttle service in the central campus. Three groups of sign language trainings were organized for our staff and students. Ergonomic desks were built for our students using wheelchairs. Students with disabilities are provided with scholarships from the Credit and Hostels Institution. The Conscious Youth Club and our students with disabilities visited the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye on May 5, 2019.”
Conscious Youth Club Manager Süleyman Ekinci made a speech on "University and Disability", Prof. Dr. Oya Levendoğlu Öner, a faculty member at the Department of Music/Faculty of Fine Arts, on ““The Need for Mentality Transformation”, and Lect. Mehmet Emin Öztürk on “The Current Situation and Future of Special Education in Türkiye”. After the speeches, the handicapped athletes who achieved success in sports competitions were presented with plaques.
2. A conference on “Are we aware of our Individual Responsibilities for a Life without Barriers? was held by the Barrier-free Campus Unit and Conscious Youth Club on the occasion of “December 3 International Day of Persons with Disabilities”. 2nd Air Supply and Maintenance Center and Garrison Commander Brigadier General Ercan Teke, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Borlu, Coordinator of the Barrier-free Campus Unit Prof. Dr. Fevziye Çetinkaya, Deputy Coordinator of the Barrier-free Campus Unit Lect. Nimet Susam, academics and students attended the event organized at Sabancı Cultural Complex. After the show staged by the students of Özkar Special Education and Practice School, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Borlu made the opening speech of the event and drew attention to the fact that 3 December International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a day of awareness and thanked the participants. Then, Disability, Family and Community Communications Consultant Adem Kuyumcu gave a conference on “Are we aware of our Individual Responsibilities for a Life without Barriers? At the end of the conference, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Borlu presented Adem Kuyumcu and those who contributed to the organization of the event with plaques.
3. On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, a conference was held at the Faculty of Architecture for the students with disabilities.
4. On Thursday, March 14, 2019, the event on “How the Communication Language of the Public Relations Campaign should be for the Individuals with Disabilities?” was held.
5. The 3rd Group "Turkish Sign Language Course" was organized by the Barrier-Free Campus Unit of our university for the staff and students on 26/01/2019, and a certificate ceremony was held at the end of the course.
6. A stand was opened in the 20th Spring Festival on 02-04 May 2019 by the Conscious Youth Club with our students with disabilities. Efforts were made for our students with disabilities to take an active part in the Spring Festivals, to prepare for trade through the opening of a booth, to contribute directly to the result with effective tasks in the organization, to take part in social life and to hold on to the life by increasing their self-confidence. Special places close to the stage were arranged for our students with disabilities at the Spring Festival concerts. (There are 17 Student Members with Disabilities in the Conscious Youth Club.)
7. Singer Kıraç took photos with disabled students during the conversation and the concert in the 20th Spring Festival/May 2019.
8. On May 5 2019, the Secretary General of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Mehmet Ali Kumbuzoğlu, invited the Administrators of the Barrier-free Campus Unit and our students with disabilities, and then they visited the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
9. On May 5 2019, students with disabilities and the Barrier-free Campus Unit visited Anıtkabir.
10. Shuttle service has been provided for the students with disabilities on campus, and our students do not have any problems in transportation.
11. Ergonomic, adjustable desks were built for our students using wheelchairs. These desks were allocated to the Faculty of Letters.
12. A desk was allocated for the student of Engineering Faculty studying at the Faculty of Science.
13. An adjustable ergonomic desk was allocated for our student using a wheelchair and studying at the Faculty of Engineering.
14. There are 17 students with disabilities in the Conscious Youth Club. Students with disabilities take part and participate in all activities.
15. On 30.10.2019, voice commands for visually-impaired students were uploaded to the OBISIS system.
